Second full day in the Czech Republic!
I cannot get enough of this city. It is fantastic. We decide to stay another night in Prague.
There are still a few things on our "must do" list. Plus, we just like being here.
The bad news, we have to check out of our hotel and check into another.
We head down to check out and have breakfast. We ask if we can leave the car in the parking spot until 2:00 or so. In true Prague fashion, they tell us this is no problem at all. Gotta love these people!
We have breakfast outside and start our day.
Things on the agenda:
- Climb the tower over the Charles Bridge.
- Visit the John Lennon Wall
- Boat ride up the river
- Visit the tower on the hill.
- Dinner
- Check into new hotel for the night
I'll start with the tower, UP and up and up. Wow. We get to the top and climb outside to look at the views. They are absolutely stunning. We've been on the Charles Bridge looking up at this tower and now we are in the tower looking down at the bridge.
The views are fantastic. Yes, I am a "little" anxious over the height. Especially when Jim asked me to get next to the edge so he could take a picture.
We make it up and down though and have a great time.
Next up, we head to the John Lennon wall. It's very close to our original hotel and it's something we just have to do. We walk the few blocks to the wall and visit "the wall". It's very calm and quiet. One lone musician playing. Tons of people but it's a very polite crowd. It's not a long visit but at least we can say we saw it.
Next up, BOAT RIDE!
We find the schedule and realize we have to hustle a little. Off we go. It's just a few blocks and we make it in plenty of time to purchase the tickets for the next ride. We choose the ride that goes down a small canal. It's a more intimate ride than the others with only about 12 people in total. The driver of the boat speaks a little English and we sit right in the front and talk to him. The views from the river looking at the city are beautiful.
It's such a small boat so we are able to talk to the captain the entire time. We bounce around and take photos and enjoy the view. OK, there may have been a very small incident. I was up taking a photo, the wind was blowing, it blew my dress up, everyone got to see my underwear for a nano-second until Jim saved me and then it was over. Moving on............ :-)
We had a fantastic time and so glad we chose the smaller boat/tour.
Now it's time to check into our new hotel and see what we've gotten ourselves in to. We go get our car and drive a few blocks over to the new hotel. We go to reception to check in and are so pleased with the service we receive. They give us our room number and we hop on the elevator. We head to the 3rd floor. We get off the elevator. We follow the arrows to where we think we are going to go. We can't find our room. How the heck can we not find our room. We are on the right floor but there are no more rooms. Jim sees a door that goes out onto the terrace (we think) and disappears. Finally , a few minutes later he comes back and says "follow me". I go outside and follow him. Out one door and into another. And .................... there is our room. It is a suite. It is beautiful. And huge. This was a last minute reservation so we believe there was a cancellation and we got darn lucky!
We take a quick nap and head back out. Time to visit "the tower". This tower is supposedly higher than the Eifel Tower by about 3 feet. Note: this is only because it is built upon a very high hill! Prague has a sense of humor!
We head to the tram that takes us to the tower. We don't have a lot of local currency but we calculate what we have and buy our tickets to go up to the tower. Jim buys our tickets. The cost is based on time spent up at the top and we only have a little local currency so we don't have a lot of time. We hop on the tram with what seems to be a million other people and start heading up.
Up we go............ we get to a point fairly high up the hill and the tram stops and the door opens. Jim gets out. No one else does. The doors close. OH SHIT! I am sitting in a spot that wasn't near Jim. I can't do anything but wave goodbye as the tram continues up the hill. People are looking at me with sympathetic eyes and looking at him and waving.
short story: I get to the top, Jim waits for the next tram to come and we meet back up at the top.
However, we now have expired the time on our tickets and will have to walk down. Bad. It's a very long way down. And we have no more local cash. And oh, by the way......... they do not take credit cards.
We are standing around, looking at the mini-Eifel Tower. We can't climb up. We can't ride down. We can't even buy a beer.
Or can we. I have an idea. I go to the beer stand and ask if they take Euros. The lady says "yes". I ask for two beers. As she starts to pour I pull out a 20 Euro bill. She looks at me and says, "No, coins only." - Which I don't have. I apologize and tell her this is all I have. She is not happy but she keeps pouring the beer. She takes my money and rummages through a bag. She gives me change in Czech money! I could not have asked for anything better to happen! I tip her well and head to tell Jim. We now have enough local currency to ride down the hill. We have a laugh and realize how grateful we should be. Life is good.
What a great experience! We head to the bottom and now it's time for dinner.
Our last night in Prague. We want a great restaurant with great people watching.
We have a great dinner. We walk back to the hotel and enjoy all the fabulous sights along the way...
It's been a great day and night. Jim and I work so well together and I am so thankful to have him.
What a great day!
