Our Mid European Vacation - Prague

July 8, 2016

Hello from the Czech Republic!

Our hotel is right at the end of the famous Charles Bridge, and right in the middle of the tourist area.  Although I am sure there was a lot of partying going on overnight but our hotel seems to have really good windows because we both slept great.

We wake up to a beautiful morning and get ready to head out.   A good friend recommended one of the tours offered in the city so we decide it sounds like a good thing.

We walk outside and have breakfast at the hotel's outdoor cafe. The sun is shining and it's a great day for a walking tour.  We head to the square where many of the tours start and we find our "Green Umbrella".  We watch all the people in the square while we wait.  Crazy Place!  There are people with big rope-type things.  They are sticking them in liquid and blowing giant bubbles, there are musicians playing instruments.........  All types of entertainment.   We watch in amazement and just enjoy.

Time to set off for the tour!  We spend three hours walking around the city, listening to the amazing history of the city.  James is our guide and you can tell he loves the city.  His knowledge of the history is amazing.  We visit the astronomical clock and so many beautiful buildings.  During the tour we are given the opportunity to purchase tickets for other tours.  Guess who bought tickets?  Yep, that would be us.  We purchase tickets for two additional tours......  The Castle tour and the ...... BEER tour.  Imagine that.  We have a total of three tours that day.

When we finish with the walking tour we have about 30 minutes to grab something to eat before the castle tour starts.  We are on the English tour of course so we get to talk to a lot of really nice people.  Everyone is having fun before we even arrive at the castle.  We have to take a bus ride up to the top of the hill.  There are 19 of us on our tour.  We meet people from Dallas and Pittsburgh and other "US people".  We arrive at the castle and it is ........well, BIG.   And magnificent.  We tour through a lot of it and are in awe.  Then, our guide makes sure we are in place to watch the changing of the guards.  Really, really cool!  It was actually a little emotional watching them march in such precise steps.  After watching this, it's time to head down the hill and get ready for our next tour.

We meet our guide and the other people on the tour at the meeting spot.  Lance is our guide. He is from the Florida/Georgia area.  We set off to visit three local bars and get a feel for the local beer.

The first bar was loud and almost annoying.  The people were all yelling and the music was blasting.  However, the experience was fantastic.  Each table had beer taps in the center and everyone poured their own beer.  There was a meter that measured how much You then paid by milliliters.  Really interesting concept.  The next two bars were normal neighborhood bars.  We had an absolute great time and met two really great people from Lithuania !

Finally time to head home.  Yet another great day..
