This morning is different. Today's only agenda is to visit Dachau. The concentration camp. We are honestly not looking forward to it yet we are looking forward to the opportunity to understand more about the horrible events that occurred here.
We took almost no photos. The weight of the experience makes it almost hard to breathe.
We leave feeling more in touch with what happened and very somber.
As we are driving back toward the city we are trying to decide what to do next. We want to see the Olympic Village (Olympicpark) where the 1972 Olympics were held but we also want to see the BMW museum. We make a final decision that we will go to Olympic Village. I am not sure that this is "really" what Jim wants to do but he says it is.
Off we go to find Olympic Village. We follow the signs to Olympic Village. We follow the signs for Olympic Village parking. We park. We get on the elevator that says it will take us to Olympic Village. The elevator doors open...... Where are we? The BMW museum!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that somehow Jim planned this so we could do both.
We get off of the elevator laughing hysterically. Needless to say, we visit the BMW museum. Well actually, it wasn't the museum. The museum itself was closed. This was more of the showroom, gift shop, place that you pick up your BMW if you had ordered one.............
We get to see all of the BMW's that are not in the US. We have a great time looking at all of them. And then........... we find out there is an upper floor that has BMW motorcycles. At this point, Jim feels like he has gone to heaven. His smile is all I need to know we have made it to the right destination.
I finally drag him out of the BMW building and we walk to Olympia Village (yes, it was close enough to walk).
We cross over the highway on a pedestrian bridge and walk onto the property for the Munich Olympics. Absolutely amazing!
We walk around and see all of the buildings that were built for the Olympics. We see the apartments where the Palestinians took the Jewish athletes hostage and killed many of them. Very historical day for us.
The last thing we did was the tower that housed a revolving restaurant at the top. Restaurant 181. It revolves 360 degrees per hour. We went to the top. Of course. We started off at the BMW tower. We had a drink. We talked to people. We watched the world go by. An hour later we were back at the BMW tower and decided to go down. Awesome experience! The views were outstanding!
We appreciate the history of what we are experiencing. We appreciate being with each other and having the perfect travel partner.
We head back toward our hotel.
Dinner plans are up in the air. We get back to the hotel and drop get the car parked. We head off on foot to find someplace to eat. There is so much going on and there are so many restaurants to choose from. We decide to find someplace in a square where we can sit outside and enjoy the people watching and the atmosphere.
We run into a street human statue who we interact with and have a great time.
We find a place that is fairly full. We walk around until we find a spot. Whew! Great spot.. We have a fantastic dinner, meet two ladies from London that sit next to us and just enjoy the evening. Tomorrow we have another big day. Our last day in Germany. We head home to get some sleep.
