ART:
1. “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”
2. “The quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.”
It’s funny how my definition of art has changed over the years and by reading the two definitions above, it seems that there is still not a firm definition of the word. I remember being very young thinking that art meant a painting. Later, as I took art classes in grade school my definition grew to include things such as molding something out of clay or gluing Popsicle sticks together to create a unique form of some type.
Today, I have a much wider definition of art. Of the two definitions above, my belief matches the second.
To me, art is EXPRESSION. It can be a photographer, a musician, someone who makes jewelry or even a home builder. If you put your heart into something to create anything, it is art.
I am thankful for the variety of artists I have in my life!
