Minigan's Chicken Ranch - Our Next Chapter

December 16, 2016

Our next chapter begins. (insert cartwheel here)

Today we closed on our new house!  Minigan's Chicken Ranch.  Including 11.3 beautiful acres that just happen to back up to property owned by some really great people that just happen to be good friends.

Now comes the fun.  Project after project........ after project.   We are going to be busy.

This morning we went to the house to do the final walk-through prior to closing.  The owners, Becky and Roger, were there.  Roger came out to the car to greet us when we pulled up.  I asked him how he was.  We could tell he was a bit emotional.  He told us that he and Becky had gotten married there. We listened to him and could hear the emotion he was feeling.  It was nice to know the people we were buying the house from had such love for the house.

The neighbor Molly from across the street was there also.  She had come over to tell them goodbye.  She had her two young daughters with her.  They told us we may see their cat running round.  She's a skinny black cat named Flower.

Becky and I walked around.  She showed me the tree stump she uses as a bird bath in the side yard. It has a hole in the center of the stump that she fills with water.   We stood on the back porch watching the birds eat the bird food that Becky had  put out one final time. So many different types of birds.   They are all beautiful.

I look out at the spectacular view.  With the leaves off the trees we can see the possibilities of an even better view with a little clearing of trees.

I look down at our chicken coup.  I can't wait to get it ready for chickens. Becky has given me a book about chickens as a gift, which I really appreciate.  I've been reading books on raising chickens, watching videos, talking to people.  My goal is to become an excellent chicken farmer.

As we were leaving the house to head to the Title Company a pileated woodpecker flew across the front yard and landed in one of our trees.  I'm sure it was a greeting to us.

The closing itself was uneventful.  We take care of our part.  Roger and Becky take care of their part. we are in separate rooms until the end.  Then we all gathered to do the passing of the key.  The house is now ours.

The journey begins.................................
