Our Mid European vacation - Travel Day
The day is here! Jim arrives home from Texas around 1:00 am this morning, where he has been working most of the week. Luckily he is able to go right to sleep. We wake up to a beautiful morning. We still have lots to do before we head to the airport. Tiger and Shelby (our cats) are both talking to us as we continue packing. I'm convinced they know we are leaving them.
Our travels over the next two weeks will include Munich, Germany to Spielberg, Austria to Vienna, Austria to Bratislave, Slovakia to Prague, Czech Republic then back to Munich, Germany.
Finally, the car is packed and we are ready to go. It's raining fairly hard as we head to the airport. Hopefully the rain is not going to affect our flight. We are both trying to finish up any last minute work-worries before we leave. We are fairly confident we have taken care of everything at the house. Cat sitter, plant watering, lawn mowing. Hopefully we haven't forgotten anything.
We arrive at the airport with no problems and in plenty of time. Check in, drop off luggage, check out our gate, have a snack and board the plane. Our first stop in Philadelphia where we have about an hour layover. Again, uneventful.
We line up at the gate and take a selfie of us with our enormous plane that will be carrying us across the water. We talk a bit with the lady behind us in line who is very nice. We joke with her about cutting in front of her in line. She jokes back that it's a long flight and she has a lot of time to get back at us. We listen to her talk to a man who is also in line with us. He is heading to Isreal. From his accent it sounds like he may actually be from Israel. He tells us he has been in Cleveland visiting his brother.... And watching basketball. Time to board the plane. I'm almost ready to consider myself officially on vacation.
We board the plane and find our seats. Row 11. We are both TSA Pre - Priority (well actually Jim is priority but I always get into line with him) so we are one of the first on the plane. We get to watch everyone board. We are on the left side of the plane where there are only two seats so we can relax a bit more. Amazingly, the woman we were talking to prior to boarding is in the the center of the plane in the row just in front of us. There are still not many people in our area so we are able to chat with her for a while. She is from North Carolina but has been living in Munich for about a year. She has come back to the states to visit her mother in California. She talks about how much she enjoys living in Munich. She and her husband were able to get a 3 year residency but she mentions it took a lot of work to get it.
As the plane begins to fill, we take our seats and start to get settled. The two seats behind us are taken by two men. They are both speaking German. I am trying to recognize words. I realize that the few words I have learned are not going to help a lot.
We are now in the air. There are problems with our internet for our tv screen so we won't be watching any movies. Jim is listening to music on his phone and playing games. I am bouncing back and forth between reading my Taproot magazine and writing. They have turned the lights off and it has gotten very quiet.
I look at the screen at the front of our section that shows where we are. We are over the ocean. The buzz of the engine is my white noise, my lullaby. This sound means I am off with Jim for another adventure. I can't wait to see what the next two weeks brings.
