We wake up early. We both had our sleep interrupted during the night but some type of "animal murder" going on. More than once. As we wake up a little more we realize that there is some type of crow outside our window making these loud obnoxious noises we have never heard. There are a few of them on the roof of the building next to us.
We were glad there were no murders going on although we both thought about murdering the birds! (kidding - kind of). We talk about our day and try to decide which trains will take us to where we want to go. We finally realize that purchasing one of the tour bus tickets that will let you "hop on" and "hop off" will work perfect for us.
We stopped at a market last night and had breakfast in the fridge. I have found a new love for cold coffee that is sold in the markets. Similar to a Starbucks drink but better.
We finish our breakfast and head across the street to find the stop for the bus. We buy the tickets on line via our cell phone (one of those times I really love modern technology) and head to the bus stop which is about 1/4 mile away. As we are waiting for the bus we meet a man from India that is also waiting for the bus. He is an Exercise Physiologist that is attending a seminar in Venice. He is extremely interesting to talk to. We discuss what his studies actually cover, we discuss a little politics, we discuss obesity in the world, we discuss kids and technology....... GREAT conversation with this man and I am so glad we met him. However, our bus comes and it is time to part ways. Jim and I head to the top, put our earphones in, choose English for the tour narration and settle in. We have a little way to go before our first stop so we sit back and enjoy the education.
We cross the Danube River and also see the house where Johann Strauss II lived when he wrote the song Blue Danube. We hear the story of how The Sound of Music came to be. Just tons of history that is so enjoyable.
We reach our first stop and "Hop Off". We walk around some of the monuments, historic buildings and watch some of the street performers. Then we head toward Naschmarkt. Vienna's largest outdoor market. Not sure if Jim had as much fun as I did but I had a blast. They had fruits and veggies and spices ..... And the people watching was great!
We also had lunch while we were there. This was truly enjoyable. A woman with blue hair (bright blue) sat down at the table next to us. We started talking and found out she is from Virginia. She was traveling to see a friend and was currently alone. Super great lady. Probably around 65, full of tattoos, models nude for supplemental income and was so interesting to talk to. It amazes me the people you meet when traveling!
We decide to move on and hop back on the bus to head to our next destination. We are headed for the zoo that is located within the Schonbrunn Palace which we visited the day before. This zoo was founded as an imperial menagerie in 1752 and is the oldest zoo in the world. The zoo was small and each exhibit was small but hey....... It's the oldest zoo in the world. And we got to see panda bears and kangaroos! They had both small red pandas and giant black and white pandas. We had a great time!
Till tomorrow...
Peace
