Minigan's Travels -Summer 2015
Bonjour to Paris and Geneva!
Day 4 - More steps to climb and climb..
Day Four
Everyone’s legs are getting tired. Still trying to find jackets. Still love Paris!
First on the agenda after our breakfast - The Sacre
Coeur Bascilica in the Montmarte area. The
Montmarte area is the highest point in Paris. Another 900+ steps to climb though. First you have to
get up the hill, then you have to climb the stairs in the basilica to get to
the top.
I am convinced that Jim is trying to kill us.
We made it to the base of the basilica. I was so pleased with myself. The views were amazing even from there. The steps to the top were next.
View from the base of the basilica. |
The hike up the stairs to the top of the basilica was well worth the pain. Stunning. You can see so much of the beautiful city. The architecture still has me in awe. (yes, I actually made it to the top even though I didn't think I could!)
When we were ready to head back, we took the funicular down
from the church to the bottom of the hill.
It was nice to ride instead of climbing the stairs down. ( I had no idea what the word "funicular" meant when Jim said we were going to ride it. Scared me a little.....

We decided to go back to the Eiffel Tower and get more
photos since it was not raining.
My first escargot! |
First, lunch at Le Dome.
My first Escargo. I’m sure
Jim will live to regret this moment. He
ordered his escargot while I ordered my standard croquet-monsieur (delicious
grilled ham and cheese, nothing like the American version). While we were eating he asked if I would like
to try his escargot. I decided to give
it a shot. I ordered escargot two more times
while we were in Paris and asked Jim to Google where we could get it in St.
Louis. Love, Love, Love!
Croquet-Monsieur |
Had a very nice older couple next to us from Chicago. We had
a nice brief conversation with them.
After lunch, we set off for
the Eiffel Tower . Had fun taking
a lot of the photos we were unable to take previously in the week because of
the rain.
Next stop, the Arc
DeTriomphe . Again, MORE STEPS - 284 steps to be exact. GORGEOUS VIEWS! We look out onto the Champs Elysees.
Subway – Rush hour – AHHHHHHHHH
Back to the hotel.

Late night snack at Cefe Jade right around the corner from
us. Awesome. Our waitress was wonderful.
People
watching People next to us drinking
Gallo White Zin. HA! I wanted to make them stop! The young lady was a little tipsy I believe. She spilled one glass of wine and almost
spilled another. I had more escargo! I’m so excited. French snails to be exact!
We stopped at the Laundromat on the way home . Jim bought laundry detergent
and was very happy with himself. Understanding how to purchase soap and use the machines was interesting. So was the laundromat itself. At 11:38 the lights went out and the door started to shut. Luckily Jim grabbed the door so we could get out. I’m not sure what would have happened had we
not caught the door…. Would we have been
locked in a French laundromat all night?
Yet another fun filled, exhausting day! Bonne Nuit!
